Every Horse is Different…

Every horse is different in how they learn…yet a lot of horses are treated the same in their educational process.  When it comes to teaching horses…“one size does not fit all.”

In my next workshop (April 26th)…the main focus will be on helping owners and their horses when it comes to helping a horse to overcome his reactive nature to run away from something that frightens him.  I always tell people that a horse will eventually stop and turn to look at what frightened him when he feels a safe distance…his curiosity will kick in.  What I can’t tell people is how far a horse needs to go before he stops and looks.  Some horses will only travel a short distance while some horses will travel much farther.

I think this fact is the biggest unknown to riders.  It wouldn’t seem so scary to riders if every horse’s reaction wasn’t so different on any given day to something scary to a horse.

A horse can be helped to gain confidence and overcome his natural instinct to flee.  I would like to help each student on more of an individual basis during the next workshop.  A horse can gain a great deal of confidence if done from his perspective…there is a process to the positive change.  But remember…each horse is different, therefore, each horse will be helped a bit differently than maybe another horse in the workshop…we always start on the ground…but the process is the same for under saddle.  I hope to share the process with you!

Note:  If the weather is good…I would like to take all participants outside for a ride, possibly in the pasture.  I could take a few small obstacles and set them up in the pasture!
